Your first visit to a chiropractor is very much like a visit to any health care practitioner. Typically people come to a chiropractor after a painful condition develops as a result of accident or stress. To start with, we need to learn about your injury and about you. To make it easy and convenient we do not charge for the initial visit. We want to get to know you, but we also want you to know us.
You should be prepared to talk about:
-
When and how did the pain start?
-
Is it a result of an injury?
-
What makes it better?
-
What makes it worse?
You may be asked to fill out forms that provide background information about your symptoms and condition.
You will also usually be asked to provide the chiropractor with information on family medical history, any pre-existing medical conditions or prior injuries, and previous and current health providers an
We will analyze many aspects of your health, but mostly focus on the following.
-
Muscle Tone
-
Muscle strength
-
Neurological integrity
We assess these by testing gently manipulating your limbs and torso to judge the degree these areas are affected by your injury or condition.
We may also take X-Rays or suggest other diagnostic tests.
Our procedures are non-intrusive an gentle. At no time will we expose you to painful or harmful procedures.
The most common diagnostic studies used by chiropractors include:
-
X-ray
-
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan
-
Laboratory tests
Many chiropractic offices can do basic x-rays, but an MRI scan and more extensive images may be referred to an outside center for which an appointment is needed.
Once we know the cause and extent of the illness, we can recommend treatment. We will explain your condition and the process we will use to effect healing. We will give you an estimate of the length of the treatment. If needed we will refer you to other practitioners whose specialities may help you.
